Press Release
For Immediate Release April 11, 2011
Revolutionary times in Canada
There’s a revolution happening right here in Canada and it’s going on right now!
Inspired by the recent Jasmine revolutions that removed leaders in the middle-east, the Beaver Revolution’s Facebook page has grown to over 400 strong in just under a week.
The Beaver revolution is non-partisan, but has one common belief that Stephen Harper must not be returned to lead our country. While other countries fight their revolutions with blood, bullets and violence, the Beaver Revolution wants to fight voter apathy with humour. The goal is to challenge voters and especially younger voters to get involved and change the game by using social media.
“We are all about positivity. Let’s make this fun, embrace our inner “hoser” and celebrate being uniquely Canadian”, said Johnny Canuck, Facebook page creator. ”I’m asking everyone to join the Facebook page and help us get the word out and make this go viral.”
In the last election Stephen Harper and his Conservative won 33 ridings across Canada with a margin of less than five per cent of the vote. The Beaver Revolution can achieve its goal if it can convince an extra 10 per cent of the population to show up to vote on May 2nd.

Simple things that YOU can do
A simple argument here....
Stephen Harper wins if young people don't vote. Young people don't vote if they're not inspired. We can't inspire them if they haven't heard of us.
We need to make the Beaver Revolution a phenomenon. That is all up to you. This is a call to action. Here are some things that you can do to grow the movement.
Invite people to the Facebook Page http://www.facebook.com/beaverrevolution
Post the link to the page on your wall. Post our links on the walls of your friends and of other political groups and pages. Create a presence for us all over facebook. Challenge your friends to join the movement.
Follow us on twitter http://twitter.com/beaver_rev
Tweet and re-tweet or send @messages about the Beaver Revolution, some useful tags are #elxn41 #cdnpoli #votemob #lpc #ndp #gpc
Contact the Press! Get on tv, radio, podcasts, comment on blogs, even write to old-fashioned newspapers. Tell them all about our movement.
Put up posters all over your town
Make flyers and pass them out, especially at campaign rallies.
Write about the Revolution on your blog.
Make youtube videos. Make them fun!
Create artwork.
Tell your friends!!!
Our success depends upon you. We can defeat Stephen Harper. All its gonna take is a little work....not that beavers have ever been afraid of a little work.

Our Vision. Our Mission. Our Strength.
We know that the country is headed in the wrong direction. We know that we must change that direction by removing Stephen Harper and his conservative government from power. We know that we can do this because we are the majority. And we have a vision. A powerful idea based upon a simple premise.
Young people generally don't vote. If they did, they generally wouldn't vote conservative. If we can motivate them to come to the polls, we will no longer have a conservative government.
Voting is not generally seen as fun, or cool, but we can change that! If casting a vote was seen as the centre of a mass movement, as the centre of a viral social-media campaign....if voting was seen as an act that makes one feel that they belong to a greater community, a part of a movement that transcends politics as usual....well, just imagine how motivated people would be to come to the polls. We would see a renewal of democracy in this country.
If we choose to, we can change the direction of our country, we can steer it toward a better future. It really is up to us. In fact, we are the only ones who can make it happen! But it won't happen without a little work. Not that beavers have ever been afraid of a little work.
People are turned off by politics as usual. We must change the game. To do so, we must keep positive and non-partisan. Not a lecture, but a call to empowerment. Voting will not be a cynical chore, but a joyful expression of our nation's spirit. A movement based not upon anger, but upon love of this country. We have wrapped ourselves in the symbols of Canadiana. Let's use these powerful symbols to get our message out.
The Beaver Revolution will motivate millions of young people to vote. The Beaver Revolution will defeat Stephen Harper. We welcome all who will join us. We await their energy, their creativity, their spirit.
Imagine how it's going to feel, on election day, knowing that you were part of the movement that changed the country.
The Beaver Revolution is underway. Get the word out!

Posters!! Print them out and put them everywhere!!!
OK, here's a simple poster that you can print out to get the word out there. All black and white so it'll be easy on your printer. Below the image are two links where you can download it, one in Word and one in PDF.
Why This Will Work
How's it going eh?
If you're reading this, then you were here right from the start. Pretty cool, because that means you saw the beginning of the movement that defeated "The Harper Government." You were part of the small group of people that changed the world. It couldn't have happened without you. Sounds pretty neat, doesn't it?
So a quick question. Who is a more effective political agent? Noam Chomsky or Jon Stewart?
Many many people have been turned off by politics. Cause life is hard and politics isn't fun. Its serious and we've got jobs to go to and bills to pay and kids to raise. We're tired and we just want to have a good time. Politics seems dull and frustrating. We don't like a lot of the politicians and we don't really care about the process. So why bother voting?
Many of you reading this are heavily involved in the political game. Activists, bloggers, radio hosts, party members. We speak a language that the mainstream often does not understand. And despite our best efforts, we have not been effective in the past. We preach to our own choirs. And the voters we need don't come out. We need to reach the people that have not been reached in the past. The way to do that is not by arguing about how terrible one party is and how great another is, or to discuss policy or platforms. The old game will give us another Conservative government. We need to play a new game. We need the politically disinterested and apathetic, the non-voters of past elections. The way to do that is to make voting fun!
The Egyptians got rid of Mubarak. We can get rid of Harper, but we have to do it in a Canadian way. With humour!
So let's change the game. LET'S MAKE IT FUN! A carnival. A street party. Something to do with friends. Cause its fun.
Let's turn legitimate anger into silliness. A celebration of Canadian humour and stereotypes eh? A big campy goofy celebration of beavers and hockey and maple syrup and moose and all other things that make us who we are.
This is the movement that can change the government. But its gonna take some work to make it happen. The idea of a Canadian Revolution needs to get out there. And that depends on you! If we're gonna succeed, we need to get our friends involved, spread the message. We need to make the Beaver Revolution go viral. We need media, graphics, press.
Word has to get out. So tell your friends, get them to tell their friends, join the group, start your own groups. This is not about individuals. This is not a particular political party. I don't care if its the NDP, the Liberals, The Greens, even the Bloc. Just. Not. Harper.
Spread the word, and imagine crowds of happy young people voting, with their friends, making a silly event out of going to the polls on election day.
Imagine how good its gonna feel to watch Stephen Harper squirm while he makes his concession speech....
Let's build a movement.
