How's it going eh?
If you're reading this, then you were here right from the start. Pretty cool, because that means you saw the beginning of the movement that defeated "The Harper Government." You were part of the small group of people that changed the world. It couldn't have happened without you. Sounds pretty neat, doesn't it?
So a quick question. Who is a more effective political agent? Noam Chomsky or Jon Stewart?
Many many people have been turned off by politics. Cause life is hard and politics isn't fun. Its serious and we've got jobs to go to and bills to pay and kids to raise. We're tired and we just want to have a good time. Politics seems dull and frustrating. We don't like a lot of the politicians and we don't really care about the process. So why bother voting?
Many of you reading this are heavily involved in the political game. Activists, bloggers, radio hosts, party members. We speak a language that the mainstream often does not understand. And despite our best efforts, we have not been effective in the past. We preach to our own choirs. And the voters we need don't come out. We need to reach the people that have not been reached in the past. The way to do that is not by arguing about how terrible one party is and how great another is, or to discuss policy or platforms. The old game will give us another Conservative government. We need to play a new game. We need the politically disinterested and apathetic, the non-voters of past elections. The way to do that is to make voting fun!
The Egyptians got rid of Mubarak. We can get rid of Harper, but we have to do it in a Canadian way. With humour!
So let's change the game. LET'S MAKE IT FUN! A carnival. A street party. Something to do with friends. Cause its fun.
Let's turn legitimate anger into silliness. A celebration of Canadian humour and stereotypes eh? A big campy goofy celebration of beavers and hockey and maple syrup and moose and all other things that make us who we are.
This is the movement that can change the government. But its gonna take some work to make it happen. The idea of a Canadian Revolution needs to get out there. And that depends on you! If we're gonna succeed, we need to get our friends involved, spread the message. We need to make the Beaver Revolution go viral. We need media, graphics, press.
Word has to get out. So tell your friends, get them to tell their friends, join the group, start your own groups. This is not about individuals. This is not a particular political party. I don't care if its the NDP, the Liberals, The Greens, even the Bloc. Just. Not. Harper.
Spread the word, and imagine crowds of happy young people voting, with their friends, making a silly event out of going to the polls on election day.
Imagine how good its gonna feel to watch Stephen Harper squirm while he makes his concession speech....
Let's build a movement.
